There are many, many national & provincial photographic organisations. There are monthly heats, regional heats, quarterly heats, national heats; it's a complete mine field and can be a great smokescreen for mediocrity! Some 7 years ago, Tim won a Kodak national quarterly award. It later transpired  that there were only 4 entries. That was the last he bothered with such non-sense! Look at the work. My advice is to ignore the smoke screen of awards and judge the work as a whole. Look at complete weddings, not isolated, "best of" portfolios, since what you want is an all encompassing day's wedding photography coverage, not an isolated decent image!
